ブルーミントン・ノーマル日本語学校補習校： 学校案内のページ

The school opened it's door in October, 1986 shortly after a group of few families moved to Bloomington-Normal, Illinois from Japan to be associated with the opening of a new automotive assembly plant that was to be run by Mitsubishi/Chrysler joint venture. The school is intended to keep Japanese students being away from home at the level adequate enough to make asjustment smoothly when they go back to home country after a few years stay in the U.S. Over the years, the school opened it's door to local familiies and their children who have basic Japanese language skill to be able to follow the school carriculum. Currently, the number of children from the local families accounts for more than 20% of total students. Since the beginning of program, the state of Illinois has provided various support which included the permission to use the facility of the state school. The facility that is being used now is the first class among similar Japanese schools around the world.

We operate total 42 Saturdays in one academic year from April to March.

The school is operated by "Sakura-kai", a not for projit organization, and the Board, chaired by Mr.S. Okazaki and consists of 5 to 7 members makes the day to day operational decision.

本校は三菱自動車の当地進出に伴って設立され８６年１０月に３人の生徒を対象として開校しました。　その後当地及び近隣の町に在住の日本企業駐在員家族子弟も参加し（遠くは片道1.5時間かけて通学）、また日本からの派遣駐在家族の数が増えるにつれ９０年代には一時１００人近くまで生徒数が増加した時期もありますが、その後漸次駐在員数が減少したため生徒数も大幅に減少してきています。　一方永住者・米国籍家族の子弟も積極的に受け入れてきていることから、徐々に数が増えてきており現在では生徒数の２０％強を占めるに至っています。　生徒受け入れにあたっては日本語での授業に充分ついていけることが条件となります。　そのため入学希望者には校長または教頭と担任の教師による面接を実施しています。

開校以来イリノイ州のサポートもあり州立大学付属小学校の校舎を使用しておりますので教室・体育館・講堂その他立派な施設を毎週使わせてもらっています。　

学校の年度は4月から3月で年間41ないし42日の土曜日を使用、午前8時50分から午後3時までの間、授業を行います。
